Serbia is a country with historic roots in Europe. The cause of Serbian nationalism has been advanced despite the obstructionist efforts of the international community, and I am proud to lead my countrymen to our destiny as a European nation.
Since the United States does not have history or national martyrs that are 600 years old, perhaps Americans cannot understand the struggle of the Serbian people. In 1389, Muslim Turks slaughtered 70,000 Christian Serbs in a single day. Serbs heroically slowed the advance of Muslim forces toward Europe, but Christian Europeans never appreciated our sacrifices. We remained loyal Western Allies during World War II while our Croatian neighbors aligned themselves with Nazi Germany and killed 500,000 Serbs, Jews, and Gypsies in concentration camps.
It is for these reasons that Serbians hold the moral high ground in our war to establish a "Greater Serbia." The media war against Serbia has produced a mountain of lies. We are not the original inventors of "ethnic cleansing:" it was Albanians who first burned Serb fields, destroyed our monasteries, dug up Serbian graves, and forced hundreds to flee for their lives. Serbians have struggled through oppression for centuries, but have never lost our dream of nationhood.
Before the collapse of the Soviet Union I was already promoting the cause of Serbian nationalism. Despite genocidal United Nations sanctions and the intervention of the United States in the Balkans, Serbia will prevail. Thousands of patriotic Serbians gave their lives defending our nation's honor, making our victory certain.
