This activity can help students learn more about the candidates and issues in the 2000 United States Presidential Election. By completing this scavenger hunt, students can practice:

• multitasking: working with a word processor and a web browser simultaneously
• copying and pasting text and graphics from the internet into a document
• searching for text on a webpage
• wrapping text around graphics in a word processing document

Students should use a template file to link to the websites where answers to the questions can be found. Downloadable templates are available two formats for both Macintosh and Windows computers. If your computer cannot expand (decompress) these files, download and install free Aladdin Expander software. Available templates include:

• AppleWorks 5 format (ClarisWorks 5)
  • scavengerhunt.cws.hqx
  • scavengerhunt-cws.zip (Make sure the file extension of the uncompressed file is .cws)
  • Uncompressed version (may become corrupted by transfer over the internet)
• Microsoft Word 97 format
  • scavengerhunt.dot.hqx
  • scavengerhunt-dot.zip (Make sure the file extension of the uncompressed file is .dot)
  • Uncompressed version (may become corrupted by transfer over the internet)

If desired, students can write the answers to questions on a piece of paper rather than creating a word processing document for their answers. In this case, a student answer worksheet is available to print and use (Adobe PDF format).
